Studio milik musisi Ahmad Dhani mendadak penuh dengan sejumlah petugas kepolisian dan tim Gegana Brimob Polda Metro Jaya. Pentolan grup band Dewa 19 itu mengaku mendapat paket berisi bom yang dikirimkan oleh seseorang ke rumahnya sejak Selasa, 15 Maret 2011.

Pentolan band Dewa 19, Ahmad Dhani , mendapat kiriman paket buku yang berisi bom. Dalam paket itu, pengirim menyisipkan surat yang ditujukan kepada Dhani. Isinya, meminta Dhani memberikan kata pengantar dalam buku berjudul 'Yahudi Militan' itu.

Buku itu dikirim ke Dhani pada Selasa 15 Maret pukul 13.00. Buku itu dikirim atas nama Alamsyah Muchtar, S.Sos, alamat Jalan Dermaga 21, Bogor, Jawa Barat. Namun, paket buku itu baru dibuka hari ini oleh karyawan Dhani.

"Begitu bentuknya buku dan saat dibuka lengket, mereka curiga. Lalu lapor polisi," kata Kepala Operasional Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Sujarno, Kamis 17 Maret 2011.

"Paketnya sudah sampai ke rumah saya tanggal 15 kemarin. Cuma karena di rumah sedang kosong dan kantor juga nggak ada orang, paketnya baru dibuka hari ini," ujar Dhani ditemui di kediamannya Jl. Pinang Emas III, Pondok Indah, Jakarta Selatan, Kamis (17/3).

Dalam paket tersebut, Dhani menemukan sebuah buku setebal 400 halaman bertuliskan Yahudi Militan dengan nama pengirim, Alamsyah Muchtar yang beralamat di Jalan Dramaga, Bogor.

"Saya memang nggak mau terima bukunya. Saya hanya baca suratnya saja. Temanya bantahan Ahmad Dhani tentang Yahudi, saya disuruh nulis kata pengantarnya. Sama kayak paket yang dikirimkan ke Mas Ulil dan Mas Yapto. Saya sempat telepon, tapi beberapa kali tidak diangkat (mailbox), saya mulai muncul paranoid," papar Dhani.

Dhani yang merasa aneh dengan paket buku tersebut menyuruh salah seorang petugas securitynya untuk membuang paket tersebut.

Saat hendak dibuang, tiba-tiba paket tersebut mengeluarkan kepulan asap seperti ingin terbakar. Kontan saja, pihak security mengamankan benda tersebut ke lokasi tanah lapang yang berada di depan rumah Dhani.

"Saat itu baru diketahui paketnya berasap dan terlihat seperti ada ledakan kecil. Saya langsung menghubungi kepolisian dan tim Gegana," tutur Dhani.

Hingga saat ini, Dhani mengaku tidak mengenal siapa orang yang mengirimkan paket tersebut kepadanya. Dhani menduga, paket tersebut sengaja dikirimkan kepadanya lantaran selama ini, Dhani dianggap mengajarkan ajaran sesat kepada para penggemarnya yang tergabung dalam konmunitas Baladewa. "Saya dituduh agen zionis dan anteknya Yahudi. Buku itu memang buku alay. Kok saya sampai diancam itu ada apa?," kata Dhani.

Kini buku itu sudah diledakkan oleh tim gegana. Polisi menyatakan, jenis bom yang dikirimkan ke Dhani sama dengan jenis bom yang dikirimkan ke tiga lokasi sebelumnya yakni KBR 68 H, Gedung BNN, dan rumah Japto S Soerjosoemarno.

The BIOS software is not residing in regular computer memory (RAM), but is a piece of memory that is permanent, even when no power is present. Typically EEPROMS are used, which are read-only memory, but can be changed by the right steps.

Before You Update the BIOS

As you can imagine, updating the BIOS is a risky procedure. If something goes wrong, your computer might not be able to start anymore. So please be careful and take the necessary precautions.

Make a backup of your files before you update the BIOS.
Find out your computer brand or motherboard brand. This is required to find the manufacturer’s website for the BIOS update.

Is your computer infected with the XP blue screen error? This is the error that shows up as blue screen with white text, and there is usually no way to recover the computer, except to restart it. For some people, the blue screen may go away after that, but that was certainly not the case for me a few months ago. It kept reappearing regularly afterwards, and I was convinced that something was wrong with the system.

Blue screen errors, or blue screen of death (BSOD) errors, are the most severe errors Windows can encounter. Since Windows can not recover from this kernel level error, a blue screen is displayed with the error details. The error details contain a STOP error code, which indicates the type of error.

There are a lot of possible causes for blue screen errors, but most of them relate to the computer hardware. The cause of a BSOD error can be a temperature problem, a timing error, a resource conflict, hardware failure, a corrupt registry, a virus or simply a device incompatibility or driver error.

How to analyze blue screen errors

The first thing to do to analyze a blue screen error is to check the meaning of the STOP error code. You need to stop Windows from rebooting when a STOP error is encountered. Once the blue screen of death is shown, you can check the meaning of the STOP error code. Together with the filename of the driver or module, this will give an indication of the error cause.

Another option to analyze the cause of the blue screen error is to look at the Windows system event log or to debug the memory dump (minidump) that Windows created when the error occurred. The event log can be viewed using the event viewer. Right-click Computer in the Start menu, and then select Manage. In the Computer Management window select Event Viewer. The information in the event log can be of great help to isolate the cause of the blue screen error.

Reading the minidump requires a bit more technical knowledge, but Microsoft has tools to read the minidump.

The most common cause of blue screen errors

In reality, the most common cause of blue screen errors is a device driver problem. Outdated, incorrect or corrupt drivers can cause the system to encounter a STOP error, resulting in the BSOD.

So the easiest way to try and fix a blue screen error is to reinstall and update your system’s device drivers. This will ensure that all driver bugs are fixed and that all hardware has the correct driver.

If you know which device caused the error, you can update or reinstall that driver first. The file name in the blue screen of death can help identify the driver. Look for a file with the .SYS extension and search for that file name.

If you do not have the drivers for all devices, or are not comfortable updating your PC’s drivers manually, you can use a driver update tool to find, download and update all device drivers for you. Such tools will accurately identify your computer hardware, including any device causing an error, and automatically install the latest drivers for it.

In most cases updating or reinstalling drivers will solve your blue screen errors.

Other causes of blue screen errors

However, if updating device drivers does not fix the blue screen error, there are a number of additional things to try:

Load the default BIOS values – resource conflicts and timing issues can be caused by incorrect BIOS settings.
Update the BIOS – especially after adding new hardware or installing a Windows service pack this can help fix issues.
Update Windows – missing updates, including service packs can be a source of stop errors.
Check your system – run a virus scan and spyware scan after updating your definition files.
Run a memory test to check your computer’s RAM. Memory faults can easily cause blue screen errors, so see if your RAM is error free. Vista and Windows have a built-in option to test the memory, for XP you can use a program called memtest86.
Driver rollback – if you have recently updated a driver, you can use the driver rollback to revert back to the previous driver version.

Yesterday, I was happily working when all of a sudden, up popped the dreaded Windows blue screen of death. I read the incomprehensible message (as you know by now, the message never makes any sense to anyone but a handful of programmers at Microsoft and they're not telling anyone, or at least not me).

Without choice, I shut down by turning off the machine, restarted, then initiated a clean shut down to flush the system of whatever caused the issue. Unfortunately, a few minutes later, the windows blue screen of dead appeared again.

I read the message again. I like to think I'm somewhat computer savvy, but the only information I could really get from the many lines of text was that the issue was caused by nv4_disp.dll. It wasn't much, but at least I had a clue.

My next stop was the Dell Support Web site where I searched for NV4_disp.dll and came up with a couple of results, one of which suggested that I needed to update my video driver. They conveniently had a link to the latest driver (5/5/2005) and I installed it. This seems to have solved the problem.

One thing you should be aware of is that when the new driver is installed, it sets the resolution at a default of 800x600, so you will need to adjust that after you restart.

It took some perseverance on my part to find the solution, and I'm sure, someone with less understanding than me could never have solved this on their own. Incomprehensible error messages remain a big issue in Windows. I hope the next version, Vista, uses more understandable error messages with clear instructions on how to resolve the issue, or at least a clear road map on how to find the answer.

Try installing Windows x64 Pro, there are Lot more Stable than normal x86 windows, the specific BSOD is almost in all cases gone for ever, your system will perform FASTER, games will play Better, and you will be MORE stable cause you are using windows 2003 kernel 5.1 not windows xp 5.0. :magic:
make sure you upgrade after the format your OS with the Latest Service Packs and ALL HotFixes for MultiCore CPUs, and install the Latest X64 Drivers!!!!

dont try x86 regular driver you will crsh your system!!!

Windows XP x64 is better than all windows out there! and generally prefer the x64 architect to take advantage of your Hardware and Not let it waste!

but this is the only real solution if you have the BlueScreen infinite loop of nv4_disp special with Geforce 6XXX cards and not only.

i spent days and nites over the web and made more than 30 tests in my 3 different (all with this problem) PCs and i am proud to say that i did it!

Masih ragu untuk melanjutkan pendidikan S2? Kalau orang tua masih sanggup untuk membiayai pendidikan sampai ke jenjang Strata 2 (S2) atau Master Degree, Anda harus memanfaatkannya sebaik mungkin. Karena banyak orang yang berusaha mati-matian mencari beasiswa S2, maklum biayanya masih tergolong tinggi. Sebagai referensi, biaya kuliah S2 di Magister Manajemen UGM (MM UGM) adalah sekitar 40 juta rupiah, kemudia Magister Teknologi Informasi UGM (MTI UGM) adalah sekitar 33 juta rupiah. Walau bisa diangsur per semester, tapi tetap saja masih tergolong mahal. Kesempatan kuliah S2 memang langka. Biasanya setelah lulus S1, Anda memilih buru-buru mencari kerja dan berpikir untuk melanjutkan kuliah setelah punya cukup tabungan saja. Affiliates are getting cleverer by the day. So these days, affiliates know the difference between the different types of traffic they can get paid for. There are a lot of definitions though – CPM, CPC, CPA, CPL, CPD and many more.

CPM is impressions, when the publisher (the website owner) gets paid every time a banner is shown.

CPC is clicks, where the publisher (or email marketer and other marketers) gets paid every time a banner or text link is clicked upon.

The other ways of getting paid are grouped together under the term performance marketing – and this is where the term affiliate is most commonly used as well.

An affiliate is a marketer who sends visitors to another site using a variety of methods (such as placing banners or text links on their own site, buying sponsored listings on search engines, email marketing and many other different methods) and gets paid when an action happens. This action can be a lead (CPL stands for Cost per Lead), a Sale (CPS stands for Cost per Sale), a download (CPD stands for Cost per download) and many other variations.

Some in the Internet industry refer to performance based marketing as CPA (cost per acquisition), although the term is also sometimes used for specific types of campaigns such as leads or sales.

Now that we’ve got over the hard part, the rest is easy to understand.

The affiliate gets paid for sending visitors to a specific landing page where an action happens – either a lead, a sale, a download or some other sort of action that the advertiser requires. As an example, some advertisers are looking to build up their databases, so they pay for each opt in email address they receive, others want leads from specific locations, so they pay for zip codes, and then try convince the visitors after they fill in their zip code, to fill in a more detailed lead form.

Don’t worry, it’s not hard to understand. As an example, say John promotes 5 different offers on a single affiliate network. He gets paid for every lead, sale, email and zip code he generates from these different offers. John now tells Mark about the Network and gets Mark to sign up using a banner or text link that has John’s referral code built into it. Mark now signs up to the Affiliate Network under John and starts promoting various offers and advertisers from the Affiliate Network. These offers DON’T have to be the same offers that John is promoting. Mark can promote ANY of the offers on the Affiliate Network.

And this is the best part…

For any amounts that Mark gets paid, John receives a percentage of the amount over and above what Mark gets paid. So if Mark gets paid $1000 in Month 1, and the 2 Tier Affiliate program is paying 5%, then John would receive $50 just for referring Mark.

But it gets even better…

Some 2 Tier Affiliate Networks pay LIFETIME commissions. So John wouldn’t get a referral commission just for a month or a year – he receives it FOR ALL TIME.

If Mark becomes a super affiliate and starts generating HUGE commissions every month, John can just sit back and collect the checks as he referred him.

There are 3 important things to know when finding affiliates to sign up under you on 2 Tier Affiliate Programs:

Is the affiliate program or affiliate network credible, has proper tracking so your referrals are correctly tracked, has good campaigns and offers for the affiliates to promote so they actually do make money, and do they pay timeously? Assuming that the affiliate program or network is good, what percentage do they pay you on amounts that your referrals get paid? All programs vary so compare different programs to see what the industry standard is.

How long do you continue receiving referral commissions for? Some pay for a month, some for the lifetime, and of course there are many variations in between.

On April 29, 1965, Ed Ames of the Daniel Boone television series was Carson’s guest. Ames was demonstrating how to throw a tomahawk using a wooden silhouette of a man, and when he threw the tomahawk it landed squarely in the silhouette’s crotch. As the crowd laughed, Carson quipped, “I didn’t even know you were Jewish.” This piece of classic television comedy was so popular that it was often replayed on the show’s anniversary.

Other classic moments on The Tonight Show revolved around some of the recurring characters that Johnny Carson portrayed, often with the help of Ed McMahon. Quite possibly the most famous of these classic television characters was Carnac the Magnificent, a mentalist played by Carson who would claim to be able to answer questions sealed in envelopes without ever seeing the question. The answers, of course, would never be straight answers and would instead be puns. When the audience didn’t like one of the jokes, he would respond with equally outlandish curses, such as “May a diseased yak befriend your sister.” Carson had a number of other popular characters as well, such as Floyd R. Turbo, Ralph Willie, and Aunt Blabby.

Not all of the comedy sketches that Carson did contained these repeating characters. There were a number of one-shot skits which appeared on the classic television show, including Carson’s portrayal of Hamlet delivering the famous “To be or not to be…” soliloquy. In the Johnny Carson version, however, were a number of product advertisements which flowed directly from the famous Shakespearean lines to create one of the funniest portrayals of the play to date.

In addition to providing laughs and unexpected punchlines, Carson would from time to time use his show as a means of exposing scams and fakes who were taking advantage of the public at large. Famed psychic Uri Gellar appeared on the show in 1973. Carson himself set up the props for Gellar’s act without Gellar or his manager being able to see them before filming. Despite Gellar’s claims of having genuine mental powers, he was unable to reproduce his usual tricks with the props that Carson provided. This method of proving Gellar a fraud had been suggested by Carson’s friend James Randi, a trained stage magician (like Carson himself) who later appeared on the show in 1987 to expose the supposed faith healer Peter Popoff. Though Popoff claimed that his knowledge of the audience’s problems came from “Godly visions”, Randi provided Carson and his audience with video that showed Popoff’s wife describing the people for him to heal via a microphone which broadcast to a speaker hidden in his hearing aid.

Other classic TV moments on The Tonight Show included visits from zoologists such as Joan Embery and Jim Fowler. They brought animals which Carson would often interact with in some way; many episodes featured Carson being crawled on by smaller animals. One famous incident often shown as a clip featured Carson leaning down too close to a panther’s cage which caused the cat to swipe at him with its paw. Carson ran across the stage and jumped into Ed McMahon’s arms for comedic effect.

When Johnny Carson retired from the show, his final episodes were considered major events. The most sentimental moment came on the next-to-last of his episodes. Bette Midler and Robin Williams were his guests. After Carson revealed in conversation some of his favorite songs, Midler began to sing one. The song soon became a duet between her and Carson. She finished her appearance by singing “One for My Baby (and One More for the Road).” An emotional Carson began to tear up on camera. This historic and touching moment was caught on film using a long camera angle never used in the previous 30 years of Carson’s run. One of his most emotional classic moments became a historic milestone in late night television filming.

Carson was an amazing entertainer, a charismatic personality and a moment maker. His appeal as a celebrity and a comedian carries on to future generations as classic television shows become available on DVD.

They came for their weekly Friday lunch from all walks of life: parents and realtors, mortgage brokers and doctor's assistants, life coaches and flower shop employees. Regardless of where they came from, they were there for each other, to spend an hour in support and fellowship.

These weekly luncheons are held in five other cities, sponsored by the organization Women Celebrations and attended by both men and women. Each luncheon has a theme that suggests the independence and success to which all people aspire, according to founder Sheryl Lynn. Themes have been as varied as "magnificence," "confidence" and "work." At an "applause" themed gathering, each attendee explained to the group why he or she deserved applause.

Members talked about moving from out of state and changing careers, business successes and personal joys. Each of the speakers received heartfelt applause as they took a moment to "stand in their power," Lynn's expression for people's ability to find success and empowerment within themselves.

It was the need to celebrate everyday things that inspired Lynn to create Women Celebrations. Despite success as a mother of three and an entrepreneur, at the end of the day she felt exhausted and disheartened.

"I was not patting myself on the back upon the completion of these marvelous things. And certainly no one else was either," Lynn said.

In starting Women Celebrations, she created an environment in which support and encouragement played a vital role.

Today, Women Celebrations has a strong presence in northern Florida and more chapters, or "loops," are appearing across the country. The organization is open to everyone wishing to celebrate their lives, share their experiences with others through positive interaction and build a sense of community.

I love nothing more than to spend an afternoon or evening watching my favorite wedding movies. It may not be my fiancées favorite pastime, but he is generally a good sport about it. He may not admit it, but he can recite certain scenes from My Best Friend's Wedding off the top of his head. Quite a few excellent wedding movies have been released in the last couple years, and these are some of my favorites.

Meet the Parents has become one of my all-time faves. It was released back in 2000, and stars the ever-so-funny Ben Stiller. The premise is typical of many wedding movies; a nervous young man is introduced to his future in-laws. What makes this movie so excitingly funny is the role of prospective Father-in-Law, played by Robert DeNiro. The dynamic that plays out between Stiller and DeNiro is unforgettable. Oh, the hilarity of it all!

Meet the Fockers is a sequel to the above mentioned, and was released in 2004. This time around we have the pleasure of meeting the parents of Ben Stiller's character, Greg Focker. His parents are played by Dustin Hoffman and Barbara Streisand, both of whom deliver unforgettable roles. They stand in stark contrast to the bride's parents from the previous film. While the bride's parents are somewhat conservative and stuffy, the parents of the groom are new-age leftists. These two films have become my all-time favorite wedding movies. Sooo funny!

The Corpse Bride is another highly entertaining movie with a wedding theme. This animated masterpiece was released to critical acclaim in 2005. It is quirky in the way that all Tim Burton films are, and it has some of my favorite stars doing voice-over work. Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter play the lead roles. The premise goes something like this; a young man is having difficulty with his lines during his wedding rehearsal. He strays off into the forest to practice alone. He nails his lines perfectly, and places the ring on a fallen tree branch…or so he thinks. It turns out that the fallen tree branch was actually the decrepit finger of the Corpse Bride, who has risen from the dead and claims to be his legal bride. Even your boyfriend will love it!

But the truth is this:

"What they really lack is the desire to be good and to undertake the deliberate practice that would make them better.

Joseph Campbell was right when he told his students, "Follow your bliss."

And yes, especially in your work. If you don't love your product for example, chances are you won't do the deliberate practice it takes to learn how to talk about it so that you get good at it.

If you don't love SOMETHING about your network marketing business enough to spend the time to learn to do it well, your chances of succeeding are slim to none.

So ask yourself, what do you LOVE MADLY about what you're doing? Is it making a difference in someone's life? Is it what the income can buy?

Whatever turns you on, will keep you going.

And if it's nothing special, perhaps this business really isn't the best thing for you to be doing. Why NOT love what you do? People can tell if you don't.

One thing's for sure in our business: The promise of income is NOT enough. Not for the 95% who drop out, that is.

So what else is there that you love enough or are challenged by enough, to keep you practicing deliberately and systematically, like everyone has ever done who excels in something?

Propaganda for Big Brother Houseguests will be everywhere on t-shirts, flyers, forums, TV.... there is no telling how extreme fans will go... Who will you vote for?

The new Big Brother House will leave nothing to the imagination of the viewer. Surveillance will exist in every corner of the house, along with memorabilia from past shows. The cost of the house... $350,000... with several intense features. The living room is decked out in bright bold colors such as red and orange and a 16 foot tall wall of neon flames will be hard to miss. The wall is said to either “make you want to drink a cocktail or kill somebody, or both”... a perfect melody of what should reflect the mood of this game- Good versus Evil... These veterans better be careful, as this game in this environment is obviously going to be cut throat and HOT HOT HOT! The kitchen continues the theme of flames but also adds a jail feeling with a solid brick kitchen floor. No wonder houseguests in other countries have gone to psychiatric wards after the show... the intensity of this environment should really turn up the heat of emotions, conflicts, and twists. The last feature of the house is several cases full of memorabilia from past seasons- most likely these items will also stir up some good and bad memories.

The house is monitored by cameras in every room- there is nothing you can't do without being watched- Orwell's symbolism becomes reality- everyone being watched 24/7. Make sure you become part of Big Brother and get access to live video feeds straight from the house.

I've always taken pride in having an open mind ...

So, when the invitation came to visit Uri Geller at his estate in the English countryside back in the summer of 1987, I couldn't pass the opportunity to personally experience the phenomenon he represents and/or channels.

Uri Geller has made a career out of being controversial. His claims of possessing paranormal talents have not necessarily polarized opinions as much as the outrageous outlets by which he seemingly prefers to display them. For example, Geller has, at one time or another, alleged to have:

- bent spoons and keys merely by concentrating on them,
- made a soccer ball move just before a Scottish penalty kick was taken during an international match against England, causing the shot to be missed and victory assured for the English,
- stopped the hands of time on Big Ben,
- advised families that messages from the dead would appear to them in symbolic acts,
- sent disorienting mental signals to KGB agents at the request of the CIA, and
- healed people's afflictions merely by being close to them.

Uri Geller was an Israeli paratrooper who fought in the Six-Day War and dabbled in modeling and a small-time magician's career before bursting onto the global oddity scene by apparently having access to a part of his brain that others didn't. He seemingly had the powers to move objects and sense thoughts and do them well enough that major media and, yes, even major governments took notice. Results may have been mixed --- the CIA, interestingly, doesn't comment either way about their contact with Geller --- but they all served to perpetuate his fame (or notoriety, according to the skeptics).

When we approached his mansion, there was no doubting that his exhibitions, books, television appearances and hobnobbing with politicos and celebrities had allowed him to amass considerable wealth. Geller met us in the foyer, immediately conveying the impression that he may be a shameless self-promoter in public, but at home, he was a gracious host. This was a social call, so he was casually dressed, soft-spoken and totally unpretentious. I couldn't say that for the furniture in his drawing room, however, as the matching sofa, chairs and coffee table were composed of huge glass-shards held together by metal spines. They were more artwork than furniture, and I was quite glad we settled in the kitchen instead.

Inevitably, our conversation broached the topic of Geller's talents. He asked if I wanted to see them for myself and, after receiving the obvious response, he pulled a spoon from the utensil drawer and gave it to me to inspect. I can attest that it was a normal, everyday spoon; I tried to flex it and confirmed that its malleability was what one would expect from a common spoon.

Geller took it, kept it in clear view, and began to rub the stem in short, quick strokes from his index finger. Before my eyes, the spoon's business end began a perpendicular rise, as if awakening from a nap. When it had formed a 90-degree angle, Geller stopped rubbing and handed me the spoon again. I felt the bent segment of the stem for signs of heat, but there was none. I checked to see if the tensile strength had been diminished, but it had not.

He really did it.

Geller then asked me to pull any spoon from the drawer and he'd do it again. I noticed that they were made of sterling silver --- ie- a normal metal --- and wondered how many he'd buy during the course of a year. Meanwhile, he repeated the feat. The only factor I noticed that could have possibly come into play was that Geller made sure he was standing in the same place both times. There was a metal radiator very close to him, but I have no idea if that played any role in the result.

He then gave me a small notebook and pen and asked me to draw something simple. He stood away and there was no chance he could see what I did. As this was summer, I opted for something totally opposite from the season and sketched a Christmas tree with a star on top. I then closed the notebook and told him I was finished.

Geller reached for a totally separate piece of paper and pen. He sat at the table, thought for a moment and began to draw. He briefly stared at me and then returned to his task. It only took another minute for him to announce he was done. He put down his pen and held up his drawing.

It was a Christmas tree, with a star on top.

I was impressed. I almost wished I had something he could heal.

I could not resist asking one off-the-wall question. I knew a prominent shipbuilding family in Spain who had access to the records of many galleons which disappeared on return voyages from the New World. Many of them were laden with gold. Had Geller ever been asked to 'divine' for precious metals underwater?

He didn't bat an eye. "No," he replied, "But I don't know why I couldn't."

He pulled a book from a nearby shelf and opened it to a section of photographs in the middle. The topic was Uri Geller. The photos were allegedly taken with a sensitivity that exceeded the spectrum of light. There seemed to be a 'cloud' between Geller's head and a small object of his concentration, such as a ball. The inference was that his mental projection was being physically 'captured' on film, joining his mind with the matter on which he was focused.

I ultimately did report to the Spanish magnates what I had seen and what I suggested. They were more than interested. One of their scions promised to get back to me, and he did, but somewhere during the course of our days, the momentum to pursue such a project faded.

I did pay closer attention to Uri Geller in the next few years. The two displays I witnessed were clearly his top talents; I read accounts of similar feats from others who had met him. However, Geller wasn't as successful when he attempted to expand his range. For instance, he bought a soccer team, Exeter, and said he'd keep his mind off the pitch. I guess he did, as they were relegated to a lower division under his chairmanship.

Allegedly, Geller did later claim to avail his services to oil and gold companies. He said he got results, but that nobody wanted to disclose he was the secret to their success. He's since written a number of books --- some of the holistic tomes are actually quite logical and devoid of anything paranormal --- and continues to enjoy the company of celebrities.

I have no idea about his talents beyond what I saw. I am convinced that what I witnessed was authentic. My lingering thought is what Geller's displays to me could portend for the human condition. It's a fact that 90% of our cerebrum's utility is yet to be understood. Did all of us really have the powers of telekinesis and telepathy?

Those are deep thoughts, and I'm certainly open to further suggestions. In the meantime, if I ever come across shipping records which list a cargo of golden spoons lost at sea, I know who I'm going to call.

However the term was gradually changed to “Spring Festival” after the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) took power in 1949. Gradually people have forgotten the legend behind these Chinese New Year traditions. In its 2006 Chinese New Year shows, NTDTV actually put the ancient story of the Nian monster on stage.

An ancient Chinese legend tells of a man-eating predatory beast called Nian, extremely fierce, with a long head and sharp horn. Nian dwelled deep in the sea the whole year long, but on every Chinese New Year's Eve it would climb onto the shore to devour livestock and harm humans in a near-by village. Therefore, every Chinese New Year's Eve, all the villagers would take their old and young deep into the mountains to hide from Nian.

One Chinese New Year's Eve a grey haired man appeared in the village. He asked permission to stay for the night and assured everyone that he would chase away the beast. No one believed him. In addition, the old man steadfastly refused to go to the mountains to hide. Seeing that he could not be persuaded, the villagers departed without him.

When the beast arrived at the village to wreck havoc as usual, it was met with a sudden burst of exploding firecrackers. Startled by the noise, the flashes of light, and red banners flying about, it hastily turned and fled!

The following day, as the people returned from the mountains, they found the village intact and safe. The old man had left, but they found the remains of the three precious items he had used to chase the beast Nian away. They all agreed that the old man must be a deity who had come to help free them of the beast.

From then on, every Chinese New Year's Eve, families would hang red banners, set off fire crackers, and light their lamps the whole night through, awaiting the Chinese New Year. The custom spread far and wide and became a grand traditional celebration of the "Passing of Nian" ("Nian" in Chinese means "year").

I say “entertaining” because Joe always said, “although we are in the music business we are also entertainers.” When Joe became ill in 1990 he asked Todd to take over the Orchestra and not one booking was cancelled. Todd himself joined the Orchestra in 1972 and is now regarded by many as one of the best front men in the business.

It was in 1969 that Joe decided, for financial reasons, that he would reduce the personnel to ten musicians and three vocalists. He felt that when the moment was right he would re-assemble the big band. Indeed to this day there are many musicians playing in present day big bands who appear in the Joe Loss Big Band whenever the band is booked.

On the subject of big bands and their leaders there is an amusing story relating to Joe and Billy Cotton. It appears that one morning just after the end of the war, Joe arrived home after a gig just before breakfast. Having had a quick cup of tea and still in pyjamas and dressing gown, who should be knocking at the front door other than Billy Cotton with a brand new motor car. He insisted on taking Joe for a spin and although the weather conditions were pretty grim, bitterly cold and with thick snow off they went into the surrounding countryside. Unfortunately, before too long the car ran out of petrol (it still being rationed that time didn’t help) and Billy left Joe in the car whilst he set off in the quest for a garage. There sat Joe as cold as ice and with teeth chattering when along came the local bobby. Pushing his bicycle, he enquired as to why Joe was sitting in the car in freezing weather wearing his pyjamas and dressing gown. Joe informed the police constable that he was Joe Loss and that Billy Cotton had gone off to try and get some petrol. By the look in his eye the constable was finding it hard to believe such a story, until Billy re-appeared with a can of petrol and convinced the sceptic that the story was indeed true! The constable cycled away with a smile on his face with two prized autographs in his notebook!

But I digress. It was with an eight-piece band, playing in the style of Oscar Rabin’s Romany Band at the Astoria Ballroom, that Joe took the first steps to becoming well-known. His growing popularity brought him a job at the Kit Kat Club where he made many of the BBC outside broadcasts. During his time there he raised the personnel to 11 plus a young lady vocalist – a croonette as they were known. She made her first broadcast singing “Red Sails In The Sunset” the top hit of the day in 1935. She was only 18 and in years to come became the “Forces Favourite” none other than Vera Lynn.

After a long residency in London Joe began to tour the music halls, as did many bands of the day. During the war he took the band to entertain the troops around the UK and eventually to France and Holland. In 1946 Joe began a regular residency in the Isle of Man from May until the end of September, which lasted until 1959. With the coming together of the ITV companies Joe and the orchestra became the house band for ABC and opened up all of the television regions throughout the UK during the period from 1956 to 1960. They were to be seen regularly on television often up to four times a week. This was followed by a long residency at the Hammersmith Palais until August 1969 broken only by an 18-week season at the Empire Leicester Square and 12months at the Lyceum in 1967. They then moved on to the Empire until November 1970 at which point Joe decided to retire. He told Sam Watmough, the current manager of the band, who joined in 1956 that during the meeting he was to inform the band of his decision.

Joe opened his speech saying “Gentlemen, we shall be leaving the Empire and Mecca in 6 weeks time on November 30th.” This brought Stan Pickstock, lead trumpet, to his feet, Stan had been with the band since 1961, who said, “bloody great, now we can get back on the road,” at which point the band applauded.

Joe however was taken aback and said, “I didn’t think you would want to go on the road again, but if you do that’s fine.” So the Joe Loss Orchestra was back on the road once again and had remained so ever since.

When Joe first became too ill to travel To0dd fronted the Orchestra until Joe eventually retired on January 31st 1990, two weeks before his 81st birthday. Joe passed away on 8th June, many thought that the Orchestra would not carry on without him, how wrong they were! They remain one of the most popular and busiest bands in the country. To quote Sam Watmough, who had been Joe’s manager for 30 years, “I knew what Joe wanted and we are still proud to be known as Todd Miller and the Joe Loss Orchestra.” As Todd himself says, “We must be doing something right!”
